MISSION STATEMENTTo be a community of praying people seeking to glorify God and demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to all.ABOUT USThe Salvation Army began its work in Banbury in 1885 although some meetings were held in the town as far back as 1880. For the first few years meetings were held at various locations. The site of the current building in George Street (formerly Fish Street) was purchased in 1889 for the sum of £500 and was first used in February 1890 where the meeting was led by Staff Captain David Lamb with a congregation of some 400 present. The Hall was renovated in 1939 and the interior was completely reconstructed in 1978/9. The founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth, visited Banbury on two occasions and it was his grand-daughter, Commissioner Catherine Bramwell-Booth, who re-opened the Hall in 1979. This still remains the town centre base for our Worship meetings, our midweek programme as well as our social outreach work.In May of 2008 we were the first Salvation Army Corps in the United Kingdom to become a Salvation Army Prayer Beacon Corps, seeking to establish and maintain a rhythm of prayer, which underpins everything we do and the official launch took place on 27th September 2008. A Prayer Beacon exists to be a house of prayer in and for the local community, embracing the principles and values of 24/7 Prayer Boiler Rooms while still very much maintaining our position as a Salvation Army Corps (church). For more information on Prayer Boiler Rooms you may like to visit www.boiler-rooms.com. In our Sunday worship services we use a mix of traditional and contemporary songs accompanied by either brass, piano or backing tracks. Songs are displayed using a multi-media projector but song books are available. We have copies of the New International Version translation of the Bible for all to use. The meetings are led by either our Corps Officer (minister), a member of our local congregation or on some occasions a visiting leader. A loop system is in place in our main worship hall which is located on the first floor and there is a lift available. We have a number of prayer displays in our hall which are available for use whenever the hall is open. These are changed on a regular basis to allow new themes for prayer to be introduced. On the ground floor we have our second hall, the office, kitchen and toilet facilities. Also on the ground floor we have our prayer room which again is available for all to use whenever the hall is open. For the location of our hall please click on the multimap link below or contact us by phone or Email for more precise directions. The only parking immediately outside the hall is for those who have a blue badge but there is a limited amount of nearby street parking and public car parks in the town centre but charges do apply for all 7 days.
